Do I have a chance at making it big at freestyle skiing?

Bi_Guy asked:

Hey,

So let it be known now, I’m not asking this question so I can get snarky remarks back. I don’t know how stupid this will sound because I don’t know the answer so if you feel like saying something rude, just hit Ctrl W now.

Anyways! I am 17 (18 in January), and I just moved to Vancouver from Toronto. I began skiing about 4 years ago, have skied in Quebec numerous times, but have been mostly limited to Ontario’s Blue Mountain. Despite my hometown’s sad excuse for decent ski mountains, I believe I can say with some confidence that I am a skilled skier. After moving out here to BC, I am quitting my elite-level hockey (’AAA’) to pursue my passion: skiing!

I am joining a 12-week program where from 8:30 to 3:30 Saturday AND Sunday at Cypress Mountain, I train for competive freestyle skiing. It begins early January and ends in March.

There is no doubt in my mind that I will be able to compete when this training ends, but as to at which level, I’m unsure. My dream is to compete in the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics… I know that is not going to happen, I started too late, but is there any hope in my future of skiing in the following Winter Olympic Games? Or at least internationally?

Please assume that I am on the slopes every weekend and during each holiday I get, even outside of this development program I have eluded to.

If anybody has any tips on how to make this happen (assuming it is not laughable), feel free to leave them with your response.

As you know, Vancouver will host the 2010 Winter Olympics. Here are some questions people from all over the world are asking. Believe it or not, these questions about Canada were posted on an International Tourism Website. Obviously the answers are a joke; but the questions were really asked!

A. We import all plants fully grown and then just sit around and watch them die.

A: When did your last slave die?

Q: Which direction is North in Canada ? ( USA )
A: Face south and then turn 180 degrees Contact us when you get here and we’ll send the rest of the directions.

Q: Can I bring cutlery into Canada ?( England )
A: Why? Just use your fingers like we do.

Q: Can you send me the ViennaBoys’ Choir schedule? ( USA )
A: Aus-tri-a is that quaint little country bordering Ger-man-y, which is…oh forget it. Sure, the Vienna Boys Choir plays every Tuesday night in Vancouver and in Calgary , right after the hippo races. Come *****.

Am I the only one who enjoys both Winter & Summer Olympics?

Semicharmed asked:

It seems on here everyone keeps talking about Summer 2008 in Beijing and then Summer 2012 London. Hardly anyone mentions the Winter Olympics coming in 2010 in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Am I the only one who watches both Winter & Summer Olympics with equal enjoyment and excitement? Why are Winter Olympics never mentioned?

Just curious.
I absolutely plan to go to some events in Vancouver. My place to stay is confirmed, now just gotta wait for event tickets to go on sale. I can’t wait!

And, I did know you could go bobsled in Lake Placid, but I have never done it.

How crowded will Vancouver be during the Paralympics this March?

msteudel asked:

My wife and I were thinking of traveling to Vancouver this March. We had forgotten that the Olympics would be there in February and the Paralympics in March. There don’t seem to be as many events in the Winter version of the Paralympics. Does anybody know if huge crowds are still expected in Vancouver throughout March?

Why did Glenn Beck lie about the Vancouver Olympics losing $1Billion dollars?

sweet_emotion asked:

The Vancouver Olympics are not held until Feb. 12 - 28, 2010.

If Not Now, When?

Working at the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) is more than a job. It’s an unparalleled opportunity to become a champion of change, and an ambassador of the possible. Job satisfaction at VANOC isn’t measured by the size of your workspace or responsibilities, but in the size of the mountain you help move. Staging an Olympic and Paralympic Games is an enormously complicated and rewarding mission. Every member of the Vancouver 2010 Workforce makes that mission possible.

So, what are you waiting for? Put yourself in the ultimate game.

VANOC Launches Employee Loan Program

Putting on the Games takes a workforce of thousands, and VANOC is looking to fill its 2010 roster with the support of local businesses and organizations

Incidentally, here is some Job Opps from the Vancouver Olympics:

Beck, pouring the Kool-Aid to conservatives slobbering for it every day!
