Does anyone have tips for air travel with a 10 month-old baby?

Kate asked:

I’ll be flying alone with my 10 month old daughter (she’ll be on my lap) next week, and want some ideas for how to keep her (well, ME) from going crazy. She can’t walk yet, but she hates sitting still for very long.
I already know the basics of air travel with baby (making sure she’s ******* on something so her ears can pop, etc.)… I want to know the lesser known tricks!

Will having a full beard cause problems with air travel security?

Bald Bat asked:

The situation with air travel security is that the process has become more strict with more detailed inspections and an increasing number of rules about what you can and cannot take onto an airplane. It has gotten to the point of having to take off your shoes.
So with this kind of scruteny will a man having a full beard run into problems with airport security personnel? Can it result in someone being refused boarding his flight? Are people being profiled or ending up with records in some government office for having a beard?

What grade of service is expected in domestic air travel?

pecker_head_bill asked:

I often see posts complaining about airline travel. Since deregulation in the industry and fierce competition to move people at bargain basement prices; the airlines have worked hard to survive. To do this they downsized, merged, added seats, cut extra services, and employees have also taken cuts in pay and benefits. A first class fare in most instances still get the royal treatment; but cabin class is most likely flying cheaper than bus or train fare. Given this, the flight attendants whom are really there for the safety of the passengers spend a great deal of time seeing to your comfort, waiting on passengers wanting cocktails and watching the kids for Mom and Dad who are so tired from getting everyone to the airport on time have decided to take a two hour nap. The flight crews are professional and do their best to get you to your destination speedily and comfortably all for $99 each way from NY to Disney World. So 1 to 5 stars what do you expect and what is 5 star service these day’s?

Which type of travel insurance do I need?

nygirlly82 asked:

I am going on a cruise in June and have purchased the air and cruise separate. The thing is that we are leaving out of NY @ 6am and arriving in Miami @ 1130am the day we have to leave for the cruise. (cannot reschedule the date we fly in) The ship leaves @4pm. With all the recent delays and cancellations of air carriers I am becoming a bit worried about 1.)trip delay that wld cause me to miss the cruise 2.) delayed or lost luggage due to a 2nd plane connection.

I would like to know if there is a specific travel insurance package that I can choose for the above. I have done some research and found that many state they will cover only if the delay is due to weather but what about if the carrier just decided to delay or cancel? Will they pay for my entire cruise if missed?

What are the positive and negative sides of liquids, aerosols, and gels restrictions on air travel?

Dakota asked:

Now we can’t longer put our liquids, aerosols, and gels (LAG) into our carry-on (hand luggage). Of course, every restriction have its own positive and negative sides. For example, the positive side of this restriction is to protect air travel from terrorist attacks. The negative side is that we can’t freely buy liquors, parfumes, or any other LAGs before the security screening checkpoint anymore.

Beside of the examples I’ve given, what are the positive and negative sides of liquids, aerosols, and gels restrictions on air travel?

Do you know about Cruising the Mexican Riviera?

Lu asked:

My husband and I are taking our first ever cruise in March 07. We haven’t received package from travel agent yet so we don’t know what to expect. Any suggestions for us? What are fun things to do on board (we’re cruising Royal Caribbean’s Vision of the Sea)? What land excursions do you recommend for the over weight - fairly non-active type? Our stops include Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan, and Puerto vallarta. How warm will it really be in March? Do we need to bring dressy clothes for dinners etc.? What about medicine in case one of us gets sea sick? Oh…so many questions. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I need to escape the coldsnap in the midwest each year by air travel. What is the best way?

homer742 asked:

I’ve found that I’m going to need to take a week vacation in January (or February) to escape at least one of the yearly coldsnaps that plague Minnesota. I’ll be watching the weather forecast, and basically giving my employer 2-3 days notice (which they’re fine with), and leaving for a week or less. Now, what concerns me is the lack of notice for the airline/s. I haven’t flown much, and my recent experiences have been quite bad. Should I use a Web site like Travelocity or find a local travel agent? Can I wait for a stand by flight? I’m aware that lack of notice makes for a much more expensive flight. Is there a way to minimize this cost?
Thanks in advance for any insights.
